Sat 7/21 - double, about 2 hours total incl. 5k in 16:18

AM - 20+ minute warmup, 5k in Springfield's Forest Park in 16:18 (ever consistent), 30 minute cooldown in the woods. Had difficulty sleeping in the tent and felt less than refreshed. Unlike the Lowell 5k where I also ran 16:18 this week, this one had two moderate-sized hills, neither of which treated me well at all. Spent the last mile in get it over with mode. No idea what the splits were. My gut feeling is that the course might be a tad short. Sunny, warm, but dry.

PM - 55 minutes in Northfield, Ashuelot Rd. to Staddle Hill, up Louisiana Rd. to the res and back down the ridge on trails. Planned on keeping the run flat but feeling a bit frisky and took the detour up Louisiana. Worth it for the view of the reservoir, made it up the climb better than I thought I would. The descent left my legs feeling somewhat rubbery. Afternoon hike up Mt. Sugarloaf, short but exceedingly steep, probably also had something to do with that.

Fri 7/20 - AM 85 minutes plus 20 minutes in Walden plus drills and strides

Walden woods, moving pretty well up until about an hour at which point I wilted a bit. Legs got increasingly sore, particularly right hammie/IT area and the uneven terrain did them no favors. Morning pulse down a bit from what it was yesterday after sleeping like a log last night. In start contrast to the past two days, a sustained wind created some choppiness on the pond. Neglecting the stretching somewhat the past few days, ergo the sore right leg, so took the time to stretch afterwards.

Thu 7/19 - double, 90 minutest total plus 20 minutes in Walden

AM - 30 minutes very easy. Resting pulse somewhat elevated this morning. Some tightness in right PA and adductor which I first noticed last night, loosened up quickly once I was moving.

PM - 60 minutes in Walden woods with 20 minutes in the pond. Hit the late afternoon blahs today and feeling less than stellar at the outset of the run, eventually came around but it took a while. Finished off with a sustained pickup the last 5 minutes. Raining much of the afternoon and early evening, persistently high humidity of late along with cooler temps. Anything involving humidity gets old fast.

Wed 7/18 - double, just under 2 hours total plus 20 minutes in Walden

AM - 40 minutes very easy to easy. Moving a bit better than previous mornings but that's likely because I started a bit later. Cool and rainy morning.

PM - 75 minutes Walden woods plus 20 minutes in the pond. Rain stopped in the afternoon, replaced by thick humidity. Still overcast and cooler, but the air and the pond felt about the same. Spent much of the afternoon asleep, overall a bit frazzled at the moment thanks to the high volume.

Tue 7/17 - double, 90 minutes incl. Lowell 5k in 16:19

AM - 30 minutes very easy. Puttering along quite slowly, not really awake.

PM - about an hour total including the weekly 5k. Conditions about as favorable as one could hope for at this time of year. Course was run backwards so first mile split (4:50) was inaccurate and there was no 2 mile split. 3 miles went by in just under 15:50. Overall a solid effort, felt somewhat tired going in after the past few days.

Mon 7/16 - double, 2:30 total plus 20 minutes in Walden

AM - 2 hours, Pratt's Brook to Acton Arboretum, over to Mt. Hope and back via White Pond Road. Not feeling especially spry but able to gradually increase the effort the last hour nonetheless under increasing sun. No undue soreness in legs or more importantly shin, but right hammie stuck a bit.

PM - 30 minutes very easy shuffle (to and from the pond) with 20 minutes flopping around in the water. Not as sore as I would have thought, that part may come tomorrow. Warm but not that humid.

7/15/07

Sun 7/15 - double, 90 minutes total incl. drills and strides, plus 20 minutes in Walden

AM - 35 minutes very easy, basically a repeat of yesterday's morning run, although I avoided the deer fly-laden woods entirely today.

PM - 55 minutes, Walden woods and Concord center, plus 20 minutes in the pond. Drills and strides on the field afterwards. Feeling what might be an improved range of motion in the hip with some elasticity in my stride as a result. We'll see if I'm just imagining things. Second day in a row w/o orthotics, another day or two and I'll be able to put the things back in the closet.
