3/5/11

Fri 3/4 - PM 40 minutes

Around the perimeter and cutting through part of Reid Park in sunny, breezy Tucson. Got a late start, shorter run than planned due to dithering around with errands following a long day of travel to get here. Left iliac crest felt stuck esp. at the start of the run. Took pains to stretch afterward even in the gathering darkness. A bit cooler than I expected and windier too, but still a thousand times better than slogging through the deep freeze of MA/

Thu 3/3 - PM 80 minutes

River Street to Red Acre, hill drills on White Pond and back on Summerhill and Main. The second easy day in a row yesterday did a great deal to restore energy levels, able to move at something faster than a crawl which was a nice feeling. Still some tightness in the left glute attachments, but adductor held up well to the faster pace and the drills as well. Continued cold temps, but at least the wind died down a bit.

Wed 3/2 - PM 80 minutes easy

Coolidge to the Charles, back on Comm. Marginally faster than yesterday but not by much. Realized within 15 minutes that I needed another recovery day, no real surprise there I suppose. Left adductor feeling better than yesterday, muscle attachments along the iliac crest still tight though. Mild conditions during the day gave way to blustery winds by sunset. Along the river the wind was particularly atrocious, tried to minimize the amount of time I spent running into it.

Tue 3/1 - PM 70 minutes very easy

Longfellow Loop. Started out slow and kept getting slower, only half-aware of this at the time. Very tired and flat, bedtime too late since returning from Colorado and especially last night. Had to laugh when I finished and looked at the watch, as the loop I ran would usually take closer to an hour. Also dragging ass due to the left adductor being fried, with attendant tightness in glute attachments from picking up the slack. Visited the local PT once again and not at all surprisingly he found the SI joint was once again subtly stuck. My thought is the one-two of Green Mountain and Barr Trail last week were the main cause of this particular regression. Wasn't bothering me very much at all after the 5k at Harvard. Disappointing that it keeps coming back, esp. as the PT referral window will be closing in a month. Seasonable temps during the day but the temp dropped after sunset, to my chagrin. Not bitterly cold by any means but not what I was hoping for either. Heard two different great horned owls hooting on either end of Longfellow which was interesting.

3/1/11

Mon 2/28 - PM 60 minutes incl. 4.5 miles of 880 cruise/440 hard

Took a stab at a Canova-esque workout, but between the adductor/psoas and how tired I was going in, it was not a great idea. Cut the workout short after 6 repetitions. Trying to hit the half mile cruise in around 3 minutes, consistently just under this. The 400s hoping for 78-9, which is what they all were. Relaxed, but the effort piled up faster than I thought and the adductor/high hammie was feeling pinched right from the start which was disappointing. I like this type of workout, but not on an indoor track with the number of laps. Left leg felt worse afterward than it did after last week's 5k on this track. I suppose I shouldn't have expected any different after how tight the glutes and TFL have been feeling since last Thursday, but I had hoped it was getting better with the added attention to core work of late.

2/28/11

Sun 2/27 - PM 55 minutes

Summerhill to Levittown, plus hill drills on Rice. Still feeling fairly tired from Friday's travel and the late night getting home. Plus the afternoon spent tromping in the woods looking at deer tracks. Took a long while to get out the door, once out though felt okay. Left hip still tight but feeling better than yesterday.

2/27/11

Sat 2/26 - PM 70 minutes

Longfellow loop with McMansionville and Ruddock. Flitted along quicker than I would have if I hadn't just returned from a week at elevation. Slowed it down in the middle of the run, then picked it up somewhat substantially down Waltham Street at the end. Left hip tight, in TFL/glute attachments along iliac crest mostly. Can't shake the feeling that the SI joint is locked again after the run on the Barr Trail the other day.
