Fri 3/20 - PM 60 minutes

Rockland Ave to Levittown and Summerhill. Starting to feel a bit better, finally, I think. Pace started out slow and took a while to progress from there but I was able to actually get moving at a decent clip the final 10-15 minutes. A feeling made more noteworthy by its absence from just about every run in the past few weeks. Conditions much like yesterday's, decided to wear more clothes and found myself overheated by the end.

Thu 3/19 - PM 85 minutes easy

South Acton to Tempo Triangle via Parker and River, on to White Pond Road and Track Road before heading back through downtown. Still moving slowly and still feeling lingering soreness in the quads, but perhaps some signs of improvement in terms of feeling a little bit better, maybe. Somewhat warmer than yesterday which isn't saying much. Track road covered with snow that's calcified into a rock hard mass, but not ice. The snow's going nowhere in the near future.

Wed 3/18 - PM 60 minutes easy

Looped around Levittown, headed back inside for a moment to drop off cans and warm my frozen fingers, then back out for another half hour or so of jogging around Maynard. Bitter cold and baleful wind combined to make for a fairly miserable experience all told. Went out in full winter kit incl. hand warmers, headsock, you name it. Still feeling very little energy, still waking up in the middle of the night/early morning for no good reason, quads still feel like crap, stiff and sore. Starting to feel like a permanent condition.

Tue 3/17 - PM 75 minutes skiing

Area 51. An exercise in frustration. Since my last visit to the snowed in trails the depth of the snowpack has of course decreased, in such a way that what were formerly the grooves made by skiers have become raised relative to the loose snow on either side. While some spots are well packed others aren't and it's impossible to tell the difference. Combined with the rain that's fallen recently a slippery unpredictable mess. No glide or rhythm to be found, and the whole thing ended up feeling about as useful as the past two days of hobbyjogging, merely on skis. Combined with this a cold front coming through resulted in punishing wind gusts as the temps started to drop. Left my hands frozen and overall feeling quite miserable. Just as annoying is the realization that it's going to be a good long while before the trails are accessible for running again.

Mon 3/16 - PM 45 minutes very easy

Aimless putter around Maynard. Turned into an opportunity to collect cans from the side of the road which was the only redeeming quality of the day's effort in fact. Quads feeling heavy and dead, plus tired from the return to a workaday schedule. Time pressure constrained the length of the run which is probably for the best.

Sun 3/15 - AM 45 minutes very easy

Watertown. Jet-lagged and dead-legged and thus barely moving it felt like. In my absence a good deal of the snowpack has gone but plenty still remains. Sitting on planes much of the day yesterday did the quads no favors. Intermittent rain showers with a nasty wind, not the welcome back I was hoping for.

Sat 3/14 - AM 70 minutes

Out and back on Douglas Spring trail to Bridal Wreath Falls. Not exactly what the doctor ordered after yesterday but I couldn't resist a final chance at getting on the trails and enjoying the desert scenery. The steep uneven parts, which was most of it, made for a slow pace and there wasn't much progressing it either.
