Fri 3/7 - double, 75 minutes total

AM - 26 minutes on the treadmill. Repeat of Wednesday morning. Right leg maybe feeling a little bit better but it's so early this can be hard to determine.

PM - 50 minutes easy. Rockland Ave to Levittown. I had delusions of doing timed pickups but it became clear within 10 minutes this wouldn't be happening. Too tired and right hamstring feeling like garbage. From there the pace got slower and slower. Leg felt somewhat better after spending a fair amount of time on the foam roller afterward. Somewhat warmer today, above freezing at least.

Thu 3/6 - PM 50 minutes plus skiing

Another round of sliding on the icy tracks in Area 51 followed closely by a jog down the frozen surface of the Assabet from White Pond Rd. to Sudbury Rd. Felt like the skiing was a bit more strenuous than the other day, plenty of double-poling again. After seeing the river frozen solid on my last visit I decided to take the opportunity to do a run on it, something that normally happens only in February. Figured the yaktrax would provide enough traction as they have in the past but I suppose they've gotten dull over the years as it was a lot more slippery than I would have liked. Ice wasn't as thick as I would like the further upstream I went, esp. on curves and constrictions. Went to the edge so as to be close to shore in case I broke through, which happened twice but only into water that was ankle deep. Made the return trip on track road, just as icy.

Wed 3/5 - double, 85 minutes total

AM - 26 minutes on the treadmill. Finally able to use the school's equipment and just as important take a shower afterward. Thus able to get in a run before work without having to get up any earlier than normal. Something of a holy grail actually. Went from 6 to 9.5 mph or so, 3.5 miles total. Felt reasonably good despite right calf still being a block of wood.

PM - 60 minutes, Tiger Drive to Longfellow loop. Took a little while to get going, and right leg felt stiff for much of the way but the pace picked up substantially over the last 10 minutes. This coincided with the calf stiffness resolving itself somewhat. Probing the state of the high hamstring as it was still sore throughout, the fast running does it no favors but what else is new. Lots of rolling on it afterward. Cold weather is stubbornly persistent.

Tue 3/4 - PM 35 minutes plus skiing

The skiing in Area 51 came first, might as well have worn ice skates for how glazed over the tracks were in most spots. Good for double-poling along flat or gentle downhill stretches but slipping and sliding all over the place trying to go full-on classical style. Waxless planks not the weapon of choice for these conditions. About 20 minutes after packing up the skis went for a relatively short loop from Jones Field, the old tempo triangle from days gone by with Farm Road in Stow and the Maple St. mini-triangle thrown in for good measure. Calf started out feeling stiff during this but better by the end. Less problems from the hamstring today as compared to yesterday. Sore throat and cold are hopefully at the end stage, although still inflamed and still producing far too much snot. Quite cold, again, as usual. Didn't realize just how cold it is right now compared to the average for this time of year.

Mon 3/3 - 60 minutes easy

Rockland Ave to Levittown. Right leg feeling terrible after yesterday's two-fer, calf a block of granite and belly of hamstring stuck as well. Not that surprising but depressing nonetheless. I'm having a difficult time seeing when and how it will get significantly better in fact. Adding to the fun is the fact that the high temp for the day never got within hailing distance of the freezing mark. Rockland ave is mostly a hockey rink at the moment. Quite the dissonance between the growing length of day and the bitter cold.

Sun 3/2 - AM 60 minutes easy plus skiing

Back on the horse, more or less. Still quite congested, not able to breathe freely through my nose in fact, but the sore throat is in the rear view at least. Not unexpectedly, the right leg feels no better for having taken the time off this week, torqued up to the hilt in fact. Having not done much of anything flexibility or strength related there's no mystery to it. Puts a damper on things in general though. Later in the afternoon, went skiing for the first time in a couple of weeks in Area 51. Not too sure about the condition of the snow, not that I had to worry as it's still at least a foot deep in most places. Otter Alley being a notable exception. A little wobbly at first but moving well most of the time. Relatively warm, or at least seasonably appropriate, conditions.

Sat 3/1 - off

One more day of laying low. Feeling better but still coughing, productively for the most part. Right nostril no longer a waterfall although still using tissues aplenty.
