2/2/17

Sat 1/28 - 90 minutes incl. track DNF

Complete cluster on multiple levels, and the end of a futile indoor track campaign. Better said, another futile indoor track campaign. This one a more distinct and definitive exclamation point as the right hamstring went just as I hit the bell and tried to squeeze out the last bit of effort. As it turns out whistling past the graveyard as I've done the past two weeks only gets one so far. What led to the hamstring being in such a vulnerable state seems quite clear in hindsight, i.e. doing the basic speed work without sufficient posterior kinetic chain strength. As for the race, had the ignoble goal of breaking the 4:50 barrier and it became clear by the sixth lap that wouldn't be happening. In fact I was on pace for a time a tick or two slower than the unsatisfying mile of two weeks ago. Fitness went the wrong way at the wrong time, again. Certainly leg issues had a lot to do with this but it's readily apparent from the multiple failure workouts of late that the training wasn't working either. The other source of frustration for the day had to do with racking up both a DNS and DNF in the same day at two different meets which is a story in its own right. One I won't bother getting into here but in hindsight I'm quite glad I didn't wind up racing the old fart olympics at RLTAC. Necessary break coming up.

1/31/17

Fri 1/27 - PM 45 minutes

Mostly easy putter with a few accelerations thrown in near the end in the new spikes.

Thu 1/26 - PM 45 minutes plus 20 minutes elliptical trainer

Dreary conditions and a desire to mix things up led to using the trainer, albeit not for as long as I would have liked. Late start to thank for that.
