8/2/08

Sat 8/2 - AM 50 minutes

over to pont Issy, up the Seine to pont Garigliano and back. Could have gone a little longer as it turns out, perceived time constraints cut the run short. Felt better this morning than most previous mornings this week. Cool drizzly conditions probably had something to do with it.

Fri 8/1 - double, 1:40 total incl. 8x200

AM - 60 minutes, Muedon Forest. Another excellent spot, miles and miles of (mostly) flat, straight roads and gravel paths connected at various hubs like spokes. Wandered around w/o ever fearing getting lost due to the layout. Like yesterday's runs, started slowly and gathered steam, more gradually this time. Much cooler and drier today.

PM - 40 minutes, over to Pic Park (actually Stade de Vanves to be exact), 8x200 untimed with 200 jog recovery then stretching and jogged back. The turnover felt reasonably good, although legs are still feeling heavy from all the walking around. Although today it was the flat Promenade Plantee instead of yesterday's hundreds of steps up the tower. Legs completely dead on the cooldown.

Thu 7/31 - double, 1:45 total

AM - 50 minutes, Parc de Sceaux. Started out quite slowly, which continued until around the 35 minute mark when the fog lifted and I picked up the pace a few notches from there on out. Legs somewhat heavy.

PM - 55 minutes, Parc Lenglen and Pic Parc. Very tired at the start of the run, persisted most of the way. Legs very heavy and tired, walking up and down the steps at the Eiffel tower would have something to do with that. Humid all day and warmer than I would like.

Wed 7/30 - AM 70 minutes, Bois de Boulogne

Started slowly, got moving better as things went along until the last 10 minutes which were moving. The park is enormous, ran mostly around the edges but there were plenty of trails cutting across I didn't get to. Right hammie feeling better.

Tue 7/29 - double, 1:40 total

AM - 45 minutes easy. In the vicinity of Pic Parc. Right hammie feeling gummed up, still tired as well;

PM - 55 minutes, Bd. Hugo along the Seine to Pont Issy and back through Vanves via Pic Parc. Finally feeling a little better after a strategically placed afternoon nap. Five strides on the track plus I finally found a place where I can do my stretching.

Mon 7/28 - double, 85 minutes total

AM - 45 minutes to Ile St. Germain park and back. Legs somewhat heavy, tired and not sleeping well due to not being adjusted to the time change yet. If ever.

PM - 40 minutes, Parc de Sceaux. Amazing spot, landscape design unlike anything that can be found in the states. Did a loop around the perimeter of the park which took just under 30 minutes and then rapidly ran out of gas the rest of the time. Humid conditions as well.

Sun 7/27 - AM 90 minutes

Around the lacs of the Bois de Boulogne, there and back via Hugo Blvd and Pont Issy. Things went much more smoothly today as far as knowing where I was going. Warm but not unbearably hot. Having difficulty finding an appropriate place to stretch after runs here, thought I would use the floor of the hostel room but there isn't adequate space for it. Spent the afternoon watching the Tour finish, at the Tour finish. A bit crowded to say the least.

Sat 7/26 - PM 80 minutes

First run in Paris. Spent much time getting lost, never more than 2.5 miles from the hostel. An exercise in frustration, to be expected of course. Finally made it to the Lenglen park which was the goal all along. Slept very little on the plane, so totally exhausted by the end of the day's travels.
