1/9/10

1/8 - PM 60 minutes

from RLTAC, corridor park to Charles Street, along the river briefly, back via BU and Fenway. Everything held together well enough, although the LG attachment was more tight and sore during the day at work than I would have liked. Right TFL along iliac crest continues to be tight but it didn't lock up the way it did three days ago. Only twinges were on slippery ground, of which there was plenty thanks to the day's light snow. The river path was not in good shape, I had to go back to streets sooner than planned. Post run spent a good while stretching then a tentative set of form drills with even more tentative 50m strides. How things feel the next few days will be the true test.

Thu 1/7 - off

like every other Thursday this month

1/7/10

Wed 1/6 - PM 60 minutes

Levittown to Summerhill. Lower gracilis attachment (henceforth the LG) felt sore and inflamed all day at work, had me worried. Not as much of an issue on the run though. The other big question was when (not if) the tightness across left TFL and hip rotatos would show up. I was hoping later on in the run than yesterday but I noticed the first twinge at 35 minutes. Manageable from then on though, but very tight after the run. Left upper gracilis/hip flexor area felt much better today thankfully, although it's still tight too. Side roads were in terrible shape, I had hoped for better footing but some streets were still covered in packed snow. Not that different from my last visit here Sunday afternoon. Not warm or sunny enough to melt any of the shit.

1/6/10

Tue 1/5 - PM 60 minutes easy

Longfellow Loop. Felt pretty good for 45 minutes or so and then the left TFL and hip rotators started to go. Route and intensity almost a carbon copy of last Friday's run. The easy part was just what I needed today.

1/5/10

1/5 - PM 30 minutes

treadmill, 7 to 9 mph. Left adductor/flexor area stiff and sore all day at work, esp. after any period of sitting, but much less sore after any kind of standing or moving around. Still quite obnoxious. First two minutes of the run felt awkward, after that much better. No time for any more running, crammed the run in between practice and a visit to the dentist as it was. Running very easy tomorrow.

1/4/10

Sun 1/3 - AM 55 minutes very easy

slow tour of Levittown, made possible by yaktrax as it was nothing but packed snow. Alas, it would appear I've swapped one strained psoas/adductor for another, as the left side is definitely tweaked after Saturday's run. While no ice was involved, slippage on poor footing was mostly if not wholly to blame. Hopefully won't take 9 months and multiple rounds of PT to fix what's happened to the left side. My sense is it's much less severe, plus I'm not in the midst of doing track workouts and running races like I was in March. Nothing but easy running for the time being, if that. The terrible footing from the weekend's unending storm is too frustrating for words.

1/3/10

Sat 1/2 - AM 80 minutes

Comm Ave from Auburndale to Chestnut Hill Reservoir, back on Beacon through Newton Centre to Walnut St. then back over to Comm. Pace gradually picked up over the first 60 minutes at which point I was done, jogged it in from there under some duress. Conditions miserable as the run occurred during a driving snowstorm, poor visibility but more importantly poor footing. The length and eventual intensity of the run was pushing it a bit but would have been manageable had it not been for the added difficulty of trying to get traction on a thin layer of frozen slush that covered much of the Comm Ave local access road. Ended up with a sore and overworked psoas--the left one, for a change. TFL and IT band also tender on the left side, sore most of the day although some time with a foam roller helped.
