Mon 5/4 - PM 90 minutes elliptigo
Rolling through South Acton and Stow. Nice afternoon for it and my legs hopefully appreciated the break from the pounding.
Sun 5/3 - double, 1:40 total
AM - 30 minutes easy. Morning shakeout to the edge of Area 51. Very relaxed putter.
PM - 70 minutes easy, Lincoln woods. Original plan was to use the elliptigo, but on the way home from Watertown as I was driving by Mt. Misery I decided on the spur of the moment to do a trail run instead. Legs feeling somewhat rickety and feeling fairly flat after spending much of the day traveling and sitting around in the sun.

Sat 5/2 - AM 85 minutes incl. 16k threshold run
Longfellow loop. The original plan was to do five laps for 20k, and I started out conservatively with this in mind. However, it became clear on the third lap that five would be a bridge too far and I scaled back to four matching the last time I did one of these tempo/progression/threshold runs, which was before the trip to VA. A disappointment on the face of it but after the way the past few days have gone I was happy to get through four laps, albeit slower than the last time. Although I have to feel like I felt more wiped out on the last lap than last month's go-round. Awoke to gloomy overcast and fog, which cleared at precisely 9 AM as if a switch had been flipped giving way to sunny skies and increasing temps. Splits:
6:14/6:14/2:55
6:00/6:05/2:56
6:01/6:04/2:52
5:53/5:57/2:50

Fri 5/1 - PM 60 minutes easy
Area 51. At long last, feeling the fog beginning to lift although it wasn't right off the bat. Started out just as flat and listless as every other day this week so far, but eventually I could feel a little more life in the legs which was a relief. Overall the run still was nothing to write home about but I'll take it when compared to what's come before of late. More gloomy overcast, more blustery breezes, getting quite old.
Thu 4/30 - PM 90 minutes very easy
More of same, i.e. feeling like crap. Really feeling the aftermath of last weekend's travel and jam-packed schedule. I'm confident I'll regain my bearings at some point but it hasn't happened yet for sure. For today I wanted to get in a longer run at least in terms of time. While this did come off, I covered much less ground than I would have expected. Continued leaden overcast skies, with the wind picking back up.
Wed 4/29 - PM 60 minutes incl. 4x400, 4x300, 4x200, 4x100
The flatness of the past two days continued unabated into today, with the problem being that a workout was on the schedule. Went through with it but felt like crap and put up atrocious numbers. With an equal jog recovery after each rep this should have been at least a little uptempo at least by my standards. Instead I was scraping the bottom of the barrel from the first rep. Felt a bit better as the reps got shorter but that was only because I didn't have to focus for as long. Splits which are lost to posterity as my watch unexpectedly ran out of memory partway through. From the memory between my ears, the 400s were all around 79, 300s around 58, 200s in 38 or so, and the 100s in just under 19 seconds. Ugh. The whole thing (8k) went by in 31:35. The workout is a good one and something I'd like to try again sometime when I'm feeling a bit more like myself. Some breeziness to deal with on the track of course, but not as bad as expected to be honest.
