Fri 10/16 - PM 40 minutes

to and from the supermarket. In need of a lighter day after the past few. Hip flexor, TFL have felt better, twinging and distractingly sore through most of the run. Recurrent theme since last Saturday. Continued cold and breezy, but at least the precipitation had stopped by mid-morning. Nor'easter not living up to its billing so far.

Thu 10/15 - PM 85 minutes

Walden woods. An exasperating experience, as the leg was sore pretty much the entire way. Tried working out the kinks ahead of time but it didn't really take. Found a very tender spot afterwards, right near the ilium, which I missed beforehand. Had I gotten to this things might have gone a little better. Plenty of leaves on the trail as well, made things a bit slippery but it was worth it to revisit these trails which I haven't been on lately. Feeling some nostalgia for the lazy hazy days of summer, bugs and humidity notwithstanding, when I could jump in the pond. Grass is always greener of course. Continued cold and blustery conditions, at least 15 degrees cooler than the average for this time of year and things are only going to get worse this weekend according to the forecast.

Wed 10/14 - PM 80 minutes

Area 51. Leg feeling a bit better than yesterday, in all likelihood because I took the time to do some direct pressure on the sorest spot before starting. Still, took over half the run to feel like I could open up the stride at all. Multiple short breaks the first 40 minutes as well. Weather getting to be downright cold, at least for this time of year.

Tue 10/13 - PM 70 minutes

Area 51. Leg feeling somewhat better than yesterday which isn't saying much. Not as inflamed as yesterday thankfully. Adductor would have benefited greatly from some work before the run, instead I was left with an annoying twinge. Got some relief afterwards with plenty of direct pressure and cff work. Weather continues to be unusually cool, rain showers in the morning which were over with by the time I headed out.

Mon 10/12 - AM 85 minutes very easy

round trip to TJ's. Painfully slow, and just plain painful starting out. Right leg stiff and quite inflamed heading out the door, VMO attachment particularly. Paying for the curtailed cooldown yesterday. Took a good 20 minutes for things to loosen up a bit, from there it was just a slog. Gave serious thought to cutting the round trip short but saw it through anyway, I needed the groceries. Sunny and cool morning, needed gloves. Had planned a PM shakeout as well, but thought better of it when the PM actually rolled around.

Sun 10/11 - AM 55 minutes incl. 5k road race

In hindsight, a bit ambitious to follow up yesterday's long run with a road race this morning. Fitful night's sleep al fresco as the chill descended. Breaking camp in the morning meant getting cold dew all over my hands which ended up being a bone-chilling experience. As such felt like death warmed over upon arrival, hands cold all morning. Very low energy levels while running the course as a warmup. Took a while, but felt better by the time the race started. Better enough at least. Course went gradually downhill the first mile, flat second mile, than a short somewhat steep hill just after the 2m mark leading back to the finish. Didn't bother to check the mile split, 2 went by in just over 10:40, there was no 3 mile mark. Surprisingly found myself in the lead at the mile, forced the issue to the extent possible the second mile, spent the rest of the race playing keep-away. The course was probably (hopefully?) a little long, otherwise that last mile was quite pokey. Not too concerned about it however. A low-key race to be sure. Leg a bit stiff warming up, worked on a very tender spot near the ilium between warmup and race which left it feeling much better temporarily. Held together for 2 miles, felt it starting to tighten up after that, and then got very stiff post-race. So stiff I was unable to do more than a 10 minute cooldown and that was an extremely slow hobble. More work on the same tender spot followed. All the downhill pounding on the descents yesterday not the best thing for the right leg. Underlying tiredness from not sleeping enough all week incl. last night came to the fore soon after the cooldown.
