12/9/16

Thu 12/8 - PM 65 minutes

Area 51. Longer loop at a somewhat quicker clip than yesterday, although the first 15-20 minutes were pokey. Finished with some halfhearted hill sprints on Fairfield, nothing really organized or sensible. Still flat, still not getting to bed nearly early enough. Got started at the exact same far too late time as yesterday in fact thanks to another long nap and taking forever to get out of bed after waking up from it.

Wed 12/7 - PM 55 minutes easy

Area 51. Took far too long in getting out the door and this cut down on the length of the run by a good bit. Feeling it from not taking a nap yesterday and making no concession whatsoever in terms of bedtime. Of course. Sluggish throughout the run as well, unsurprisingly.

Tue 12/6 - 55 minutes incl. 2 (8x1 minute)

Longfellow loop. Very straightforward session of minute on, minute off, with the caveat of trying to ease into each repeat hopefully finishing at a quicker rhythm over the back half than the first 30 seconds. Effort was consistent throughout. Got a later start than I'd like which made for a slightly shorter run overall.

12/6/16

Mon 12/5 - PM 65 minutes

Area 51. The dreaded wintry mix arrived early in the morning, with snow followed by rain ensuring plenty of poor footing and slippery traction. The sidewalks were left a mess, while the untreated and mostly untrammeled trails of the refuge were somewhat better. Either way a drag. Wanted to get some hill sprints or drills done but ran out of time.

Sun 12/4 - PM 70 minutes easy

Area 51. Easy run down in the refuge with the CH. The wind that was blasting all day yesterday finally slacked by late afternoon, not coincidentally when we determined it was worth heading out the door.

Sat 12/3 - PM 70 minutes incl. 3.4 mile road race

Last minute decision to add another sandbag race to the list. In this case a loop around Lake Quanapowitt, a very flat and at times scenic course. Alas, the wind was raking from the NW such that most of the first 2k or so was an exercise in getting blasted with some stand-up gusts. Nearly ruined what was otherwise a decent experience. Tried to save something for the third mile when I knew the wind would be at my back, in the end though all three mile splits were within four seconds of each other, clustered just above 5:30. Controlled but still an effort, feeling fairly flat coming into the day. Cooldown was an easy jog on the neighborhood side streets in an attempt to escape the wind's not so gentle caress.

12/4/16

Fri 12/2 - PM 40 minutes very easy

Easy putter after a much shorter nap than has been the norm. I had delusions of doing some pickups on the way in but it became clear after 10 minutes or so that I'd do well to keep the pace from devolving to a crawl. Very tired and flat, shouldn't have been too much of a surprise after yesterday.
