Fri 4/25 - PM 80 minutes

Track Road to Area 51. Hip feeling better today compared to yesterday, although still not feeling up to doing strides on the way in. Still, moving more quickly than on recent days. Finished just as the sun was setting on a warm dry day, conditions close to ideal with only a modest breeze.

Thu 4/23 - PM 60 minutes

Area 51 to the MHS track where I did 8 100m strides with the considerable (and obnoxious) wind at my back. Hip has felt better recently, but also worse. Marginally better on the last stride than the first, but still awkwardly uncomfortable. Tired and flat after spending most of the day outside at track-related functions getting raked by the spring breeze.

Tue 4/22 - AM 35 minutes very easy

Morning putter over to 10 Spencer to pick up my new mountain bike (as Paul Gaston would say, "thanks, dad"). Barely moving for most of it. Planned on an afternoon run, but got home from work completely exhausted. Nice morning, sunny and rapidly warming, although the rain returned soon after that.

Tue 4/22 - PM 70 minutes incl. 4x1600

Progress made from last Thursday's attempt at a workout in that I was able to run further with noticeably less pain, discomfort and awkwardness in the right hip/adductor. Still feeling inflammation of course but the constant stretching of late appears to be sinking in. The only downer of the session was how slow the repeats went:

5:30
5:33
5:33
5:29

rest was a 200m jog, just over 70 seconds. The effort felt like 5:10 pace, no doubt in my mind that a month ago the same workout would have gone at about that speed. Right calf got tight near the end but not to a debilitating degree. Gusty winds from the east to go along with drenching rain that started just as I was starting the first rep.

Mon 4/20 - PM 55 minutes

windblown run in Brookline and the Fens. Raw and not especialy pleasant. Hip continues to progress, thanks to stretching breaks more than anything else. Kept the run a bit shorter after yesterday.

Sun 4/19 - double, 1:45 total

AM - 20 minute easy jog, Coolidge to BPL. Headed over on foot to the road mile, which was fairly ridiculous but quite entertaining. Hip quite stiff at this hour as I knew it would be. Chilly.

PM - 85 minutes, Walden woods. Over Pine Hill back via Old Concord Road. Ran out of gas near the end, nearly bonked but held it together. Hip felt better and better as it ha been of late, the regularly spaced stretching breaks doing their part. Neither warm nor cold, thanks to both sun and persistent easterly wind which is going to suck hard for the runners tomorrow. Have fun storming the castle.

Sat 4/18 - PM 70 minutes

Area 51. Similar in most all respects to last night's run but a bit shorter. Adductor not as inflamed as it was yesterday. Still not right by a long shot, favoring it in such a way that the iliacus is spasmed up, but who's counting. Despite it being a Saturday, it might as well have been a work day courtesy of an all-day kiddies' track meet. Quantity over quality, as these things usually are. Got home at about the usual time as a weekday, and about as tired as well. As such the pace on the run took a long time to get going. Cool with a relatively gentle wind all day.
