Fri 7/9 - PM 60 minutes plus 20 minutes in Walden

Still slogging, still hot and humid. Shorter run today but had I attempted to stretch it out I'm sure the result would have been similar to yesterday with the running out of energy. Utterly incapable of getting a decent night's sleep this week, humidity has a lot to do with that. Taking my lumps right now, I just want the dew point to get below 70 and stay there.

Thu 7/8 - PM 90 minutes plus 20 minutes in Walden

Temp and dew point each a few degrees lower than yesterday, every bit helps but still less than comfortable out there. Energy levels at low ebb, ran out of gas around the hour mark and shuffled in from there. Really, really tired. Also, somehow tweaked my left hamstring/TFL, probably just from all the uneven footing lately as I don't remember any specific moment when I might have strained the area.

Wed 7/7 - PM 75 minutes easy plus 30 minutes in Walden

Another day of soul-crushing heat and humidity. Mitigated its effects somewhat by doing the double dip, 15 minutes to the pond then 15 in the pond, 45 more in the woods, 15 more in the pond and then back. While running in the heat is a chore, trying to sleep at night is more so and leaves me dead to the wide when I'm trying to catch up on sleep. Not pleasant. Pace stayed pokey of course.

Tue 7/6 - PM 50 minutes very easy plus 30 minutes in Walden

Utterly disgusting bottom of the barrel conditions today, with temperature in the triple digits and of course humid as well. The deer flies love this type of thing. Easy effort required going at a very easy pace. The muggies overnight made it near-impossible to sleep so of course I was dragging from that as well. Made it a point to put in extra time in the pond, which was of course the highlight of my entire day. This type of day makes me consider going early in the morning or late at night instead of the usual afternoon time but the logistics just don't work.

Mon 7/5 - AM 90 minutes

A final run in Northfield before heading home. Up Louisiana to the reservoir, across and down the ridge to Birnam, then over to Old Wendell. Packing in the climbs today. Extremely creaky at the start after no post-run stretching yesterday, took 15 minutes or so to feel like I wasn't dragging ass. Still feeling tired but not quite as exhausted as recently after taking a long nap yesterday afternoon and then getting 8 hours sleep for the first time in a long time. Heat and humidity both up a notch from yesterday, thankfully avoided the worst of it by starting early but it's no picnic and will be worse still tomorrow.

Sun 7/4 - AM 2 hours

Took it easy most of the way by necessity, still feeling the underlying sleep deprivation of the last few weeks. Spent the first 70 minutes on the other side of the river in Satan's Kingdom, briefly in Vermont. Finished on Staddle Hill up to the antenna, but avoided the Burt Hill and Schofield Mtn. climbs which would have put me under. Yesterday was hot but relatively dry, today the humidity started to assert itself. Even with the morning start it was draining by the end of the run.

Sat 7/3 - double, 2:10 total incl. 4 mile road race

AM - 80 minutes incl. 4 miler in 22:23. Mildly surprised at how flat and tired I felt, shouldn't have been based on how little sleep I've gotten in the last few weeks. This past week an ongoing failure in that regard, extended into last night. Somehow I keep finding myself not only up but doing various errands at a ridiculously late hour. Only capable of easy running at the moment as a result, so the race was quite the shock to the system. Gave up racing after halfway, last two miles in 5:50 or so. Left hip flexor sore afterward. Hotter than I thought it would be despite the early start.

PM - 50 minutes very easy along the norwottuck bike path. Should have gone a little shorter, if at all, misjudged how long it would take me to get to the river. Sitting in the water the best part of the day.
