Sat 4/24 - AM 75 minutes easy

Lincoln woods, Farrar Pond loop. Much to my chargin, left adductor is if anything worse than it was yesterday. Maybe DOMS, or maybe I overdid it stretching last night but it felt off from the get-go. Basically a re-aggravation of the strain from back in January, related to the pinched TFL/hip extensor I was feeling recently too. While the pace of the run was quite relaxed, the up and down terrain and uneven footing weren't the greatest thing for the left leg. Hopefully it will respond quickly to some TLC. Nice morning to be outside, perhaps the last one for a few days.

Fri 4/23 - PM 65 minutes easy

Track road to Area 51. Left adductor still sore from yesterday, more so than I'd expected. Despite this, legs had a little more spring in them than I thought they would, made for an odd run. The trail between Track Road and the Area 51 sandpit completely underwater, still dawning on me how high the water table is right now.

Thu 4/22 - PM 65 minutes incl. 4k, 1600

A little ambitious given the quasi-workout two days ago and the very late bedtime last night, but I decided to try doing a marker workout nonetheless. Aiming to do a 4k cutdown, then 1600 at 71-72 pace, then maybe 4x200. 4k went in 13:25, km splits of 3:24.5, 3:22.5, 3:20, and 3:18.6. Under control, maybe a bit more of an effort than I would have liked but still relaxed. 9 minute break, changed into spikes for the first time in over a year and then ran a 1600 in under 5:00 for the first time in a year. 4:47.2 overall, splits of 71.2, 73.4, 72.4, and 70.2. This felt harder than I would have liked, the 4k left my legs heavier and more fatigued than I had anticipated. Working hard from the get-go, still able to stay relaxed and muster a bit more effort on the final lap to bring the pace down the last 200m. The repeat 200s at the end got the ax, would have been counterproductive. I got the feedback I wanted anyway. Given that I was tired all afternoon and there was some breeze to contend with, it all went well and training will point towards a track 3k in three weeks' time. Legs held up reasonably well except for some soreness in left adductor on the cooldown.

Wed 4/21 - PM 60 minutes easy

Lincoln woods. Took it easy as planned, legs feeling as good as I could have hoped. Warm day with a gusty wind. The level of Walden is as high as I've ever seen it, sections of the trail flooded that I've never seen under water before. Likely to stay that way for a while. Looking ahead to tomorrow, mulling over another visit to the track. We'll see.

Tue 4/20 - PM 75 minutes incl. 3x(5x200)

At long last the leg prep workout I've been meaning to do for some time. Straight from the Chapman playbook, "workout that's not a workout" type of session. Left hip was stuck and pinched much of the day which was something of a mystery, I can't remember when or how I caused it. Responded to direct pressure and compressions well enough, thankfully. Longish warmup and drills, then 3 sets of 5(200) with 90 second recoveries, just over 3 minutes between sets.

Set 1: 34.6, 35.4, 34.4, 34.5, 34.8
Set 2: 34.7, 34.5, 34.6, 34.0, 34.9
Set 3: 35.0, 35.0, 35.2, 34.8, 69.2 400 for kicks

The hope was that the pace would feel controlled and by and large it did. No idea at all what the pace would be, somewhat surprised and a bit worried to see numbers under 35 the first set. Made it stick throughout the rest of the way though. The 400 at the end is I think the first time I've run under 70 seconds in over a year. Felt very controlled, not straining at all which was a nice feeling. Some soreness in left SI after it was over but nothing too bad. The usual westerly breeze blowing but it was slacking off by the time I got started.

Mon 4/19 - double, 1:35 total

AM - 30 minutes easy, Comm Ave to Beacon. Easy morning shakeout, still flat. Wondering if I'll ever not feel flat.

PM - 65 minutes, Area 51. Pace more uptempo than the morning run, not to an extreme degree though. Something's off in my left hammie/hip area, stuck and not moving well. Fairly strong NW breeze all day, windy as always.

Sun 4/18 - AM 60 minutes

15 minute jog early in the morning from Coolidge Corner to the BPL, then watched the BAA mile races, then 45 minutes easy along the river. I had planned on doing something in the evening as well but feeling too flat and tired by late afternoon to go through with it. Off and on rain showers during the morning and early afternoon but I caught the worst of it heading back to my car from the expo, disgusting wind-driven showers that left me soaked and chilled to the bone. Ugh.

Sat 4/17 - AM 90 minutes easy

Lincoln woods. Similar to last week, kept it relaxed throughout with a few pickups on the way in. At the moment I'm in need of easy running to recover from the aching tiredness of late. Raw chilly conditions but could have been worse, at least the rain held off.

Fri 4/16 - PM 40 minutes easy

Tired tired tired. Happy just to get out the door. Felt a little better by the end of the run but energy levels in the basement.
