Thu 5/6 - PM 70 minutes incl. 6x800

Another track workout with gale-force winds. Blasting 20 mph or so with gusts around 30. Something that can't be escaped this spring apparently. Seems worse than previous years. I had the epiphany that maybe it would be a good idea to adjust my pace goals accordingly. This certainly helped. Still, having to surge on the tailwind straight and hunker down on the headwind straight got old. Lap jog recoveries, around 2:30 apiece. Did the last two in spikes. Slight negative split on all but maybe the fourth one.

Legs held up well to the effort, some stiffness in the hip flexors afterward.

Wed 5/5 - PM 65 minutes easy

Area 51. Legs feeling stiff, awkward, and quite creaky, like I would have expected them to feel yesterday but not today. Left lower back sore, I landed funny in a depression on the side of the road Monday about 2/3 of the way through the threshold run and I figured it might leave a mark. Had to take it easier than planned as a result. Warm and sunny day.

Tue 5/4 - off

my chance to run disappeared thanks to the 30 minute lightning delay during the kiddies meet. Fantastic.

Mon 5/3 - 70 minutes incl. 12k threshold run

Tired all day after a restless night flipping and flopping in the unusually warm weather. Plus I woke up an hour early to sign up for this which meant waking up at 5 AM but I saved $15 so it was totally worth it. Took a while to wake up from the much-needed afternoon nap, got a late start on the run as a result. Stumbled up the road to Longfellow, the first loop was definitely a continuation of the warmup more than anything else. Pace dropped down on the second loop without much in the way of extra effort, dropped some more on the third loop but that didn't come as easily. Overall a solid effort and after last week I'll take what I can get. Splits:

6:00/5:59/2:50
5:50/5:51/2:47
5:44/5:46/2:45

the usual spring breezes to contend with, could have been better but certainly could have been worse. Pollen levels high right now, not sure how much that affects my breathing but it didn't this evening.

Sun 5/2 - AM 90 minutes

Track Road to Area 51 via Sudbury Road. Legs improved from yesterday, which isn't saying much. Kept the pace easy and tried to let things develop pace-wise, not much development there though. Forcing the issue just a bit. Right quad/adductor attachment has been stiffer than usual in the morning the past few days, likely from lack of post-run stretching. Most notable thing about the day was the weather, switch flipped from wind chill conditions to dew point conditions. Very summer like feel.

Sat 5/1 - AM 75 minutes easy/very easy

Out and back between WHS and Hemlock Gorge. Left adductor felt terrible the entire time, along with lower back, TFL, you name it. Responded somewhat to direct pressure and post-run stretching but still sore all day. Yesterday left more of a mark than I'd anticipated, a bummer. Less wind this morning, sunny with temp. on the rise.
