11/20/15

Wed 11/18 - PM 60 minutes incl. 3k, 2k, 1k, 10x100m

Progression workout on the track followed by some turnover work. Bandied around ideas until just before heading out the door before settling on the cutdown structure to the longer stuff. Originally going to do 200s for leg prep but decided on ins and outs instead after finishing the 3k, in hindsight a wise decision. Overall felt like I was moving well but the stopwatch told a somewhat different story. a disconnect that's become somewhat familiar. More worrisome though was the left ankle which after Sunday's effort in the woods in less supportive shoes was feeling sore and inflamed running in flats on the track this evening. Not something I would have noticed the past two days with the slow paced runs in gunboats. The hill drills might have set me up for this as well, who knows. Same acute medial tendinitis type feeling I've had before, typically some stretching and TLC helps it on its way. Splits:

3:44.1/3:37/3:34
3R
3:30.6/3:29.5 - not much of a progression alas
2R
3:23.3 - felt like a sub 3:20 but not to be

After five minutes jog, did 5 laps of ins and outs with the faster 100s going in 18.7-19.5 and averaging somewhere around 19 flat. Far from fit or sharp right now. Chilly evening but not a breath of wind, a combination which I'll gladly take at this time of year.

Tue 11/17 - PM 60 minutes easy including hill drills

Area 51 to Levittown via White Pond Road, with hill drills on Rice road and 5 short sprints on the way in. Took a while to get out the door and then a while to get going at anything beyond a putter. Had thoughts of another short unsatisfying run but stuck it out and made it to the mythical hour mark (or thereabouts) eventually. Trying to get back in the routine of doing hill drills again after last week's resumption. Some stiffness in right hammie but nothing to prevent the drills from getting done. The short pickups didn't feel nearly as powerful or quick as I would have liked but it's not a surprise given how training has gone of late.

11/19/15

Mon 11/16 - PM 45 minutes very easy

Tiger Drive. Another shorter than desired run, thanks in part to a late start. Some soreness in right calf after yesterday's forest adventure.

Sun 11/15 - AM 75 minutes incl. trail race

Upton State Forest. Feeling tired from the moment I got up, as has so often been the case on weekends of late. After a barely adequate warmup, took on the 10.5k loop that was exactly as advertised. That is, a mix of technical ascents and descents with stretches covered in leaves. I should have known better as I was expecting smoother footing but it was a case of being deluded. The toughest climbs came about 5 miles in and were steeper than expected. Led from gun to wire, not necessarily what I would have wanted but went with the flow. Able to hold the lead throughout although it was closer than I would have liked given the absence of any notable competition. Dodged a massive bullet by opting out of the two-loop half marathon in favor of the shorter distance, as the half would have been utter misery.

Sat 11/14 - double, 70 minutes total

AM - 40 minutes, Area 51. A bit rushed and felt as such, but at least an improvement over yesterday's trudge. Wanted to run longer but not enough time for it after getting started a bit later than I should have.

PM - 30 minutes easy. Unexpectedly, I was invited by the lovely SO for a run around town, an invitation I eagerly accepted. After standing in a field all afternoon getting blasted by a merciless wind I wasn't planning on doing anything other than retiring to bed so it was nice to be able to get out and stretch the legs a bit.

Fri 11/13 - PM 30 minutes very easy

Aimless, pointless putter around Maynard that ended with a less than triumphant walk home as I was too tired to move any faster. Massively underestimated how flat I was feeling, should have taken the zero today. Did some aluminum mining instead so it wasn't a total loss.
