Fri 3/20 - PM 75 minutes easy

Area 51. Slept soundly last night but still bouncing back from the previous night's late late bedtime. I had hoped to do a workout this evening but between the lack of energy and another extremely late start it wasn't happening and will have to be put off, likely until Sunday. Right hip and adductor sore and stuck after yesterday's trail run, def. from the uneven footing. I did strides nonetheless, building from 30 to 60 steps, but it felt awkward and uncomfortable. Cold and clear once again. First woodcock sighting of the season, and I heard at least two others nearby.

Thu 3/19 - PM 85 minutes

Lincoln woods. Trails are in much better shape than they were a week ago, thankfully. Still some icy patches but nothing like the hockey rink that it was. Able to negotiate Mt. Misery, Fairhaven Bay, Old Concord Rd. areas well enough. Extremely late bedtime left me tired all day, as such I made it through the first 60 minutes of the run fine energy-wise and then completely ran out of gas. Don't have my trail legs either so they were a little rubbery by the end. Chilly sunny afternoon, which will be the pattern going forward from the looks of things.

Wed 3/18 - PM 65 minutes

Glen Road to Wellesley Road, back on Washington. Right adductor still tightly wound, took a long time to feel anything but awkward. Didn't help that the pace went from relaxed to too fast after 10 minutes. The whole thing felt forced. Warmer temps today but overcast with a gusty SW wind.

Tue 3/17 - PM 70 minutes in Wellesley

Waban loop to Washington St via Sprague field. Some icy spots on the path around the pond but overall things are clearing out. Had to cut the length of the run down a bit due to a very late start, for the second day in a row. Right hip twisted in a knot, took a good long while to loosen up at all. Leaves my stride feeling awkwardly off-kilter. Sunny day but with a persistent breeze that kept it from feeling that warm.

Mon 3/16 - PM 80 minutes easy

Longfellow Loop incl. Ruddock and Mossman. Not the usual post-race day crawl but not much faster. Right adductor sore and inflamed but could have been worse. Much cooler today than yesterday, more seasonable temps.

Sun 3/15 - AM 2 hours incl. 5k road race in 16:00

Solid if unspectacular effort on this course which had a little more roll to it than I expected. Easy jog warmup stretched out to half an hour, took all of that time for stiff sore right leg to loosen up at all. Return of the sharp pain on the medial patellafemoral attachment during this warmup, it's been a while. I didn't miss it any. Finally got things working more or less, esp. after a brief set of drills in the parking lot. Race got out relatively relaxed for the first 600m which I liked a lot then the course tilted up into a gradual incline the next 600m which made things less relaxed. More rolling over the remainder of the course but the first mile had the biggest hill, if you want to even call it that. Stayed between fourth and sixth the entire race, had the guy in front of me lined up at times but the last mile I just wanted to get it over with and so settled for the spot I was in. A function of the past few days of higher volume no doubt. I hope. Missed the mile split but 2 miles passed in 10:16. The last mile seemed to stretch on forever. At the time I thought maybe the course was a little long but it doesn't appear that way on closer inspection. Cooldown was a very relaxed, very slow hour plus to, from and around Fresh Pond. Soreness in right thigh post-race was less that what I thought it would be. Warm and pleasant conditions all day, bit of a breeze as the afternoon wore on but nothing major.

Sat 3/14 - double, 85 minutes total

AM - 45 minutes easy, Tiger drive to Old Mill. Not as tired as yesterday afternoon's run, but still sore. Right adductor firmly stuck. Cold but warming up rapidly as the morning wore on.

PM - 40 minutes, recon to the edge of Area 51 to see the patrol road is still completely socked in (of course) then back to the roads. 5 strides on the way in that felt were problematic at best due to right adductor. The slipping on ice the past two days hasn't helped matters any. Worked on the pelvic attachments of the muscles involved after the run, hopefully this will have some effect.
