Fri 5/20 - PM 85 minutes very easy

Track Road to Area 51. Much-needed recovery jog, left hip not that stiff after yesterday but overall feeling quite tired, no surprise there. Finally a break in the clouds, with the sun out the temp shot up 10+ degrees. A bit sticky but not complaining.

Thu 5/19 - PM 60 minutes incl. 4x2k

Longfellow Loop. Still coping with the late-afternoon tired feeling, probably exacerbated by the fact that the sun hasn't been seen for four days. A bit warmer today than yesterday though, enough to make it humid instead of dank. Kept the effort controlled on the repeats, one time check at 800 and other than that trying to maintain consistency. 400m (2 minute) jog between each rep. Splits of 7:01, 6:59, 6:54, and 6:57. Felt like maybe there was more of a headwind on the even numbered reps but with the usual crosswind it's hard to say. Got a bit ahead of myself on the third one, left me feeling a bit peaked on the last one. I had thought about doing a fifth rep prior to that but discretion ended up being the better part of valor.

Wed 5/18 - PM 45 minutes very easy

Area 51, with hill drills on White Pond Road. Really feeling the pull of gravity today, took some doing to get myself out the door and putter down the road. Late start and very low energy. Left glute/TFL area tight and sore from yesterday, adductor as well. I thought they'd be in better shape than they actually were. Gloomy weather continues, not quite as bad as predicted in terms of rain today but still no picnic.

Tue 5/17 - PM 55 minutes incl. 16x200

Splashing through the puddles on the MHS track, which is not an exaggeration. Got started later than I would like, struggling to get out the door and face the abysmal weather that has gone downhill since yesterday, gloomy cool overcast gave way to cold wind-driven rain showers. Caught a break during the warmup with the rain but it started in earnest as I started the workout. Sets of 200s defined by the revolving recovery, first 300m jog then 200 then 100. The splits were far from impressive, thanks to conditions, not wanting to aggravate the thigh/adductor, and also trying to keep it relaxed and under control. After starting out right around 39-40, eventually got down to low 37s by the end. It'll do. Left ankle stiff at first, by the middle of the workout hip flexors and hammie were twinging but not to an unmanageable degree. Rain picked up in intensity until near the end of the workout when mercifully it let up. Cooldown on the short side, looking to get out of the rain which was starting to pick up again.

5/16 - PM 75 minutes very easy

Area 51. Very tired, in hindsight should have cut back on the length of the run but found myself stuck out there past the point of no return before realizing this. Not moving fast at any point but still feeling beat afterward. Got a late start,  due to dragging ass after getting home from work and also spending some necessary time on the foam roller before heading out the door. TFL/glute and adductor feeling pinched and tight all day at work, more so than I had expected. I had planned on running in Lincoln originally but didn't bring the right apparel with me for the abysmal weather, drizzly overcast windy cool garbage. Plenty more of it to come as well.

Sun 5/15 - AM 60 minutes incl. 3.3 mile road race

Solid enough effort, albeit sabotaged by a poor night's sleep which was extremely frustrating. Flat from the moment I got out of bed, ugh. Got to bed too late last night and then had much more difficulty than expected in falling asleep. Gave it a go nonetheless, caffeine made for a peppy warmup at least. Very glad I ran the course as the warmup so I knew what was coming. Stuck with the lead until the 3 mile mark when it became clear it was going to be a bridge too far. The course included one notable hill at the mile mark, up then down, with the wind at our backs the first mile and in our faces the third mile. Split times reflected this, 5:03 and then a pair of 5:20s. Finished feeling quite spent, left adductor fatigued. Very slow 20 minute cooldown, left leg sore afterward with glute tight. Overall though the leg seems to be improving in how it reacts to the stress of running fast, esp. when there are downhill stretches involved. Avoided the rain of later in the day thankfully.

Sat 5/14 - AM 85 minutes easy

Area 51. Moving noticeably better than yesterday, still at a relaxed (i.e. slow) pace but not a crawl at least. The left hammie much less stiff as well. Weather pattern trying to change, flow out of the south instead of east, but only partly successful. Still cool on the whole.
