Fri 4/17 - PM 85 minutes

Area 51, not nearly the trial I was expecting in the aftermath of yesterday's attempt to work out. Adductor is inflamed more than usual but not as painful as I expected it to be. Took two stretching breaks and it felt successively better after each one as the run progressed. Finished with some quasi-strides, not blazing but able to move relatively well without much pain at all. Stretching more assiduously certainly seems the way out of this mess. Warm and pleasant evening after the nicest day of the spring thus far. Very tired after the week's grind.

Thu 4/16 - PM 65 minutes incl. 4x1000

Motivated mainly by foolhardy optimism, I decided to give a bit of faster running a try today. It feels like my hip and adductor have been improving of late if only slightly. In hindsight it was jumping the gun in doing this but I'm hopeful that it isn't damaged any worse, time will tell. What is readily apparent is that the lack of stretching of late hasn't helped a bit. I had suspected as much from the pattern of runs of late where the first 30 minutes or so feel like garbage and it gets better from there on out. Stretching between the warmup and workout left it feeling much better, if only temporarily. Looking to run 5-6 reps with 200 meter jogs at a controlled pace. The reps themselves never felt better than uncomfortable, with the added bonus of the times (3:18-3:20) reminding me that I've lost every last bit of sharpness that I had from the winter. Cooldown didn't feel as bad as I was expecting to, but I was expecting the worst. Stretched some more after the cooldown. It'll be inflamed tomorrow for sure, interesting to see to what degree the goosefoot is involved.

Wed 4/15 - PM 85 minutes

Track Road to Area 51. Back to the stage where I needed to take a break to do some direct pressure work, but found a gummed-up area that responded well to the field treatment and the rest of the run felt pretty good. Except for the fact my back has tightened up some as well from favoring it. Chilly evening, got a bit of a late start. NE breeze all day but sunny and clear as well, just not warm.

Tue 4/14 -off

another in the series of Tuesdays off. Most notable today was how inflamed the goosefoot area was today, paying in spades for the 15 minute pickup at the end of yesterday's run I suppose. Interestingly, as sore as it was all day at work it felt much better after standing around at the HS meet all afternoon. Definitely loosened up compared to how it felt sitting in a chair during the day.

Mon 4/13 - PM 75 minutes

Area 51, finishing on Old Marlboro and Parker Street. Picked up the pace substantially over the last 10-15 minutes after keeping it relatively low-key leading up to that. The hip/adductor mess has felt worse but still nowhere near normal, at least today I didn't have to stop after 30 minutes for some massage work on the area to loosen up adhesions. Still not feeling capable of doing strides which speaks volumes about where I'm at with this.

Sun 4/12 - AM 1:45 total

Back and forth across Area 51 following a jog down Track road and Sudbury Road. Same general pattern as the past two days, adductor stuck and painful the first 30 minutes until I stopped for a massage break, better after that. The run itself consisted of three chunks of roughly equal length separated by five minute breaks. Pace gradually picked up within each segment, getting tired near the end due to lack of any long run lately but hung in there. Yesterday's rain replaced by strong gusty NW winds and clear skies. Obnoxiously cold for this time of year.

Sat 4/11 - AM 75 minutes very easy

Lincoln woods, around Farrar Pond. Very easy pace which suited me fine after yesterday's more strenuous effort. Dreary chilly wet conditions which only worsened as the afternoon progressed. Planned PM run went by the boards for this reason as well as being surprisingly hungry and tired when late afternoon rolled around.
