Fri 3/14 - PM RLTAC 80 minutes incl. 1600, 3(3x400)

Unexpectedly flat and tired today. Debated all day over whether to workout on the track today or on the roads tomorrow but given the forecast I chose to stay indoors and get it over with. Stiff on the warmup, took every bit of the routine of jogging, stretching and drills to feel anything like loose and ready. Workout not especially relevant to preparation for the upcoming 10k but I wasn't inclined to care. I had worries about the calf holding up to faster paced running but it was not an issue.

Splits as follows:

1600 5:04 slower than I would have liked
5R

set 1
66.9
67
66.8

set 2
71.3
70.9
71.2

set 3
66.3
65.4
65.2

5 minutes between sets and a little under 90 seconds between reps. First set required some effort, second set more relaxed if just a bit quick on the whole. The last set was predictably apocalyptic. Going at least 95% on the last two reps. Cooldown was a crawl as I had nothing left in the tank.

Thu 3/13 - PM 75 minutes

River Street to Rt. 27 and on to Mt. Hope, where I took a somewhat spectacular ass-first fall on a patch of ice, returning via 27 and Acton Road. A bit less time than what I had been shooting for but it'll do. Legs feeling better than yesterday but not all the way back, strides on the way in felt distinctly lackluster. Spring fever remains an issue, trails not yet suitable but the recent time shift and concomitant later sunsets has me itching to get on them. Cutting through Mt. Hope not the wisest move in this context, much if it a hockey rink.

Wed 3/12 - 50 minutes very easy

Coolidge to Fenway and back via Longwood. Straight recovery, unable to lift legs very much at all after yesterday's workout. Not at all a surprise. Planned on going a bit longer but chose discretion over valor today, going for the gusto volume-wise tomorrow instead. Right calf tight but not overly sore. Still sunny and windy as befits this time of year.

Tue 3/11 - PM RLTAC 80 minutes incl. 4x2400

Legs were surprisingly stiff on the warmup, still feeling it from Friday I suppose. The workout itself was lengthy but not particularly difficult. Calf did get tight though, other than that I could have done another rep at the same pace w/o trouble.

splits as follows:

7:56.6
7:56.7
7:57
7:48.1

recoveries were around 2:10.

Mon 3/10 - PM 55 minutes

Levittown to Summerhill. A bit odd to be running this particular loop in the daylight, hopefully it will soon be unnecessary as trails will be accessible. Some lingering soreness from Friday but not too bad. Did six strides on the way in that felt smooth. Cold clear and windy again like yesterday.

3/9/08

Sun 3/9 - PM 90 minutes easy

Track Road to Area 51 White Pond Rd entrance, over to McMansionville and Mossman. Afflicted with a premature case of spring fever, itching to get on the trails even though it's far too early to expect them to be clear with recent weather patterns around here. I thought perhaps recent gullywashers would have melted away the snowpack, wishful thinking. Anything that wasn't treated/plowed was a mess, ice and/or compacted snow. Combined with an obnoxious wind chill I wound up closer to very easy than easy after 45 minutes or so and payed out the string from there. Stiff and sore anyway from Friday's session.

Sat 3/8 - AM 45 minutes very easy

low-key putter around Maynard, pace went from superslow to very easy. Quite stiff as expected from yesterday's workout. Thankfully, the rain stopped long enough for me to get the run in without being drenched.
