Sat 1/10 - PM 75 minutes easy

Relaxed effort from RLTAC to the river and back through Brookline with stops at the library and for lunch. Very easy for most of the first 40 minutes, at which point I realized I needed to pick it up a bit to get back to the HS meet in time. Seamless transition to running faster, didn't take that much more out of me. Legs somewhat stiff but not that sore. Patches of ice everywhere, cold and clear day.

Fri 1/9 - PM RLTAC 65 minutes incl. 3x200, 2x300, 800, 2x300, 3x200, 800

First workout in a long long while where the time spent recovering was more than the time spent running the repeats. The workout went well, to which I can owe the day off work Wednesday, the day off running yesterday, and being able to sleep in this morning. However it happened, I'll take it. Splits as follows:

33.2, 33.7, 32.9
49.8, 49.6
2:20 (even)
49.0, 50.5
32.7, 32.9, 32.3
2:16.4 (70, 66.4)

rest was supposed to be a 200 jog between the shorter reps and 2.5 minutes before and after the 800s. Time-wise the 200 jog took anywhere from 62-74 seconds. Held something back the first half of the workout, saving something for the final 800 which I wanted to hit in 2:17. The second half of it was a bit rubber-legged but still smooth. Certainly the fastest 800 I've run in a long time. Right hip flexor and hammie a bit sore but not to a large degree. Even better is that the right calf held up to the faster running, it's still tight but nothing like what it was earlier in the week and late last week. As usual for a Friday, the facility was idiot-free.

Thu 1/8 - off

third in the string of planned off days due to HS meets. Slipped and fell right on my tailbone leaving the facility, hopefully no lasting effects.

Wed 1/7 - PM 60 minutes very easy

Puttering around Back Bay and Brookline. Pace eventually went from a crawl to just slow. Plenty of slush puddles and some icy patches after a day of the wintry mix, made for dicey footing. Felt as good as I could hope to for the day after a workout. Having the day off from work and being able to take a 2 hour nap after the requisite shoveling of the driveway certainly had something to do with that.

Tue 1/6 - PM RLTAC 85 minutes incl. 2(800, 800, 1600), 2x400

Made it through the relatively long workout in one piece, something of a relief given how my right leg has been feeling of late. Continued to work on the right calf stretching during the day at work, overall the leg was stiff on the warmup nonetheless, esp. in hip flexor/adductor area. More worried about being able to complete the whole thing than with hitting the splits (72 pace on the 800s, 73-4 on the 1600s). Legs felt rubbery on the first rep but after that running those paces wasn't an issue, although running 4:52 on the second 1600 with negative splits while dodging people as they inflicted their splendid circus on the rest of us was a challenge. Splits as follows:

2:24.1
2:24.3
4:55.8 (even)
2:23.3
2:25.5
4:52.3 (2:28.5/2:23.8)
69.2
67.2

2.5R after the 800s, 4.5 after each 1600 and 90 seconds between the 400s at the end. Less tight and sore than I had expected after the workout was done.

Mon 1/5 - PM 65 minutes

Looping around the Woodlands in Wellesley, tagging along as the kids did their workout. As such the pace was all over the place as I hopped from one group to another. First and last 15 minutes were relatively steady, albeit a bit quicker than I would like. What else is new. Right quad tendon felt terrible much of the day at work, inflamed and sore. Sitting for long periods doesn't appear to do it any favors. Calf less tight than it has been lately after various periods of chair stretching and some direct pressure on the area last night. Some leftover icy spots on the roads from last night's freezing rain, came as close to a pratfall as I can remember at one point. Avoided straining anything in my core, I hope.

Sun 1/4 - PM 90 minutes easy

Track Road to Area 51 via Sudbury Road. Happily, the snow was well-packed on track road, footing as good as can be hoped for at this time of year. Took it easy straight through today, some lingering tiredness as well as continued stiffness in the right leg, esp. right calf.

Sat 1/3 - off

Scheduled off day following extraction of wisdom tooth #2. Right calf feeling tight after yesterday, not surprisingly. Not doing myself any favors with the discombobulated cooldown and lack of stretching after the workout.
