Thu 2/12 - PM 45 minutes very easy

As tired and lousy as I've felt on a run for a long long time. Meandered around town hitting Sheridan/Winter/Taylor and then on to Tiger Drive. Progressively slower and slower. Footing was worse than the last time I tried this loop, which contributed to the superslow pace. However, a poor night's sleep combined with no time for a nap in the afternoon left me quite flat. In fact rather than a nap I was busy clearing snow and ice dams from the roof which was an adventure. Felt like walking at numerous points but I was too far from home and it was too cold for that to work.

Wed 2/11 - PM 42 minutes, treadmill incl. 5 minute pickup, 5x 1 minute

While the track was in theory available, not feeling at all like making the trip in and out of town for it. Took a longish nap instead before getting going. Vague plans of what exactly to do on the treadmill to mimic an interval session, although I wanted to do something longer to start followed by shorter bursts. In the end went with a 15 minute warmup from 7 to 8.5 mph followed by 5 minutes starting at 10 and ending at 10.9. After a 4.5 minute recovery period averaging around 8 mph, ran five minute long reps at 11.1 followed by 90 second recoveries. As per usual, it felt much harder than what these paces would have felt like on a track, but I suppose the exertion level's the focus. Some stomach issues towards the end which likely curtailed the cooldown, also I simply lost interest in continuing much longer. Hopped off once the six mile mark was reached.

Tue 2/10 - PM 50 minutes easy

Back to the back and forth in Area 51. This time only between the main entrance and the VC, as Ranger Rick has given up on trying to keep the sidewalk clear back there. Footing not ideal but with traction assist I was able to get by going slowly. A bit of a late start after a late start to the work day, had only vague ideas of how far I would be running but when the end came it was quite obvious it was time to stop.

Mon 2/9 - PM 60 minutes easy

Hit the roads between bouts of snow. With yaktrax and short strides, traction not much of an issue. Looped around Espie, Sheridan, Winter streets, and over to Tiger Drive. Under normal circumstances a deathly dull route but happy simply to get outside as cabin fever has set in. Better than using the treadmill for sure. Right leg holding up reasonably well after all the laps yesterday.

2/9/15

Sun 2/8 - PM 60 minutes incl. 2(4x1000)

Redundant session to Thursday's on the treadmill, but under the circumstances I'm not about to quibble. Right leg not in a state to support anything more high octane at the moment. With another snowstorm getting going the options for training outside are rapidly approaching none. With Harvard open starting at noon I went for a lunchtime start and I wasn't alone. After some indecision decided to stick with something simple and straightforward. Not entirely sure what pace would be sustainable, started out on 42/lap and worked from there. One minute jog recoveries, with more like 6 minutes between sets. Spent nearly all of that break working on the right leg including compressions on the calf and rolling on the IT band/TFL area. Very glad I brought the foam roller along as the leg felt better the second set than the first. Splits:

3:30.5
3:28.7
3:28.5
3:28.5

3:28.2
3:27.2
3:26.0

2/8/15

Sat 2/7 - PM 75 minutes easy

Parker/River St. to Tempo Triangle, back via White Pond Road and Summerhill. Started just after noontime, hoping this would allow for better visibility for drivers of the cars buzzing past. Traffic not that heavy on most of the roads I chose thankfully. Legs and particularly right calf not feeling much better than yesterday, although there were signs of life near the very end. Spent a good while doing compressions on the calf which seemed to be more productive than usual. Stretching and core work as well. Still below freezing all day but only just in the middle of the day, relatively balmy by comparison to the past two days.
