Fri 6/4 - PM 70 minutes
First trip of the summer to Northfield, Staddle Hill to Louisiana Rd, up to the reservoir and then across the ridge and back down. Still sticky but not quite as gross as yesterday. Overall feeling better after a decent night's sleep. Moving relatively well on the uphill climbs, although the descents weren't good for the left iliopsoas, I could feel it getting sore.

Thu 6/3 - PM 60 minutes incl. 1600, 800
Another curtailed workout, this one cut pretty substantially. Hoping to do the 1600/1200/800/400 cutdown. Disgusting filthy sticky humid conditions the first problem. Windy as well, classic t-storm weather only the storm itself didn't show up until hours later. As I was doing the 1600 as a pacing exercise for the kiddies, and had a meeting later, had to run in the middle of the afternoon, still digesting lunch. On top of all this, still not close to well-rested. It all added up to having only one burst of sustained effort in the tank, after the 1600 in a controlled 5:00 I could feel myself running out of gas trying to keep up the same pace for the 1200. Cut it short and called it a day. More disheartening than that was the fact that the left adductor became increasingly locked up during the long slow cooldown, felt like I was hobbling around on it by the end. Not entirely sure how I re-re-aggravated it recently but it's taken a step backward to be sure.

Wed 6/2 - PM 45 minutes easy
Mellow effort in Area 51, quite by design. Still struggling under the weight of being tired, last night's struggles falling asleep due to twinging muscles didn't help any. Feeling a bit better today and better at the end of the run than the beginning. Less humid than yesterday but still on the warm side. Summer-like conditions the past few days, deer flies starting to show up in the woods.

Tue 6/1 - 60 minutes incl. 4x1600
Still too flat and tired to work out, as I found out to my chagrin. Sleep pattern completely out of whack coming off the long weekend, no energy to speak of. Planned on doing 5-6 reps on the Longfellow Loop with short rest, but felt the familiar running out of gas feeling on the fourth one and that was that. Splits of 5:31, 5:33, 5:27, 5:30. 200 jog between reps, just over a minute. Decent temperature but very muggy and this didn't help matters any. While I wasn't going that fast at all, the effort left my left adductor tight and sore, and the TFL and lower back twinging like crazy. Which kept me from getting to sleep right away, exactly what I didn't need.

Mon 5/31 - PM 70 minutes easy
Walden woods. Probably a foolhardy move to run at all today thanks to the smoke drifted in from Canada. I noticed some airway irritation at first but not to the degree I was perhaps expecting. Kept the pace easy, completely as a concession to the air quality. A bummer because it was a nice day to be outside otherwise, but the haze from the smoke ruined it.

Sun 5/30 - PM 95 minutes easy
Walden woods. Started out at a crawl, concerned that would be where I would stay the entire time, but within 15 minutes I was moving a little better. Still very easy throughout, flat and tired from yesterday. Ended up spending a bit more time than I had anticipated, but it wasn't a problem. Continued warm and breezy conditions.

Sat 5/29 - double, 1:40 total incl. 5m road race
AM 70 minutes incl. 5 miles in 27:25 on this course. Too tired and flat to get the CR bonus $, I did give it a try but it became abundantly clear after 3 miles that it wasn't happening and so I packed it in from there. Splits of 5:14, 5:24, 5:27, 5:47, and 5:33. Warmup and cooldown both on the pokey side. Left iliopsoas didn't feel so great before, during or after. Warm and just breezy enough to be annoying. Warm enough that I took water at 4 miles, which tasted like it came from a lobster pot. An odd and unpleasant experience.
PM - 30 minutes very easy. Shakeout putter before belatedly doing stretching and core work. Hip feeling a bit better.
