12/29/16

Mon 12/26 - double, 85 minutes total incl. 2(6x40 seconds)

AM - 40 minutes very easy. Morning run with the CH, the first time in a while I've had company.

PM - 45 minutes, Levittown. Very brief on the warmup and cooldown, most of the workout consisted of the pickups which were done with a 2 minute recovery. More "workout that isn't a workout" type stuff, glorified strides, etc. Felt reasonably smooth if not particularly fast.

Sun 12/25 - off

Squeezed by travel and time constraints. Got home dead tired which led to a long nap, woke up far too late for even a short run. Sucks.

Sat 12/24 - AM 31 minutes

Treadmill. Squeezed by a combination of horrible weather and looming holiday plans which left me with no other choice than to do a short run on the treadmill instead of the longer easy run I would have preferred. Very frustrating of late trying to get in any kind of training volume on the recovery days, there's always a reason it seems why it doesn't come off. Right calf a bit sore from yesterday.

Fri 12/23 - PM 55 minutes incl. 3 mile tempo, 3x400

Combination threshold/race pace session, or so I would like to think. Started with a cutdown changing gears every half mile. Splits of 3:02.6, 2:58.9, 2:55.7, 2:51.6, 2:48.4 and 2:43.9. Mostly well under control, although a bit quick at the start and handled each step in pace reasonably well. 12 minute plus break after that which included changing into spikes and doing a few strides on the infield in anticipation of ripping off 4x400 on a 2 minute schedule, i.e. less than 50 seconds recovery. Hit the first two in under 72 as I had hoped, on the third one the effort got noticeably harder and the split slower, although only by a bit at 72.2. The short recovery was the key factor though, and I decided to pull the plug and try again another day rather than blow myself up completely. Splits are beneath mediocre but given how utterly lacking the fitness level has been of late it's a start.

Thu 12/22 - 50 minutes easy incl. 5x150

Started off by jogging over to the track, changed into spikes and ran 5 of the "speed development" 150s with the middle portion near top end. Jogged back home after that to drop off the shoes and went out for a slow putter around town. Not particularly motivated or energetic. Cold but not windy.

Wed 12/21 - PM 60 minutes easy

Easy run around Maynard, on roads as the trails are currently unmanageable in the snow.
