Further reminders of the overweening feeling of fatigue, not that I needed any. After feeling like dog poo four of the last five days I had my doubts about being able to finish an honest-to-goodness workout. I did finish the thing off, although I reached my limit quite frankly before the end. Splits as follows:
5:01 (2:31, 2:30)
4.5R
2:25.1
2.5R
2:23.2
2.5R
70.5
69.9
71.0
70.7
90 seconds recovery between the 400s
everything felt harder than it should have, esp. the 400s at the end when I was playing out the string. Feeling the fatigue in every fiber of my being. Similar to October, I've come out the other side of a vacation in FLG feeling the worse for wear. Weather continuing its downhill slide from yesterday, obnoxious chill breeze to go along with leaden overcast skies and spitting showers. Did nothing for me.

Fri 5/2 - PM 65 minutes easy, Track Road to Area 51
Feeling more flat again today, similar but not as pronounced as Wednesday. As such the pace was slower than yesterday, I did do strides on the way in but they were fairly lackluster. It will take some time to get out from under this, to be sure. Weather turning foul, overcast with showers and much cooler than I'd like.

Thu 5/1 - PM just over 60 minutes, Area 51
Finally feeling better than the past few days. Still somewhat tired but some semblance of energy has returned. Decided not to push my luck and capped the run at an hour for today, maybe a bit longer tomorrow. Did some strides on the way in, felt fine but noticed some twinges in both calves afterward. Finally had some sun today, warmer but still kind of cool but the wind was minimal which was most welcome.

WED 4/30 - 35 minutes very easy, Walden woods
Energy level still lower than low, something of a surprise that it hasn't come around by now. Realized at about 15 minutes that the fog wasn't lifting and so cut things short, including plans to do something on the track today. Slept better last night but it's going to take more of the same over the next few days for it to sink in. Cool conditions today with a persistent breeze that made it downright chilly.

Tue 4/29 - PM 45 minutes very easy, Area 51
Energy level just about nil, the jet-lag appears to have caught up to me from the weekend. Cut the run short as a result. Motivation further diminished by continued dismal weather, took a good long time for the rain to clear out and a chilly breeze took its place. Hopefully I haven't dug too deep a hole for myself.

Mon 4/28 - PM 30 minutes on the treadmill
4 miles total, 6.5 to 9.5 mph. Feeling tired and flat upon getting home from work. Dismal weather did nothing to help matters. Soon realized it was either treadmill or nothing today for me. Did the run as much so I could stretch afterwards as anything else.

Sun 4/27 - AM 85 minutes incl. 5k/10k double
Slept poorly after a day of hectic travel, including very nearly getting stranded overnight in PHX. This combined with quads that felt like they were made of lead left me less than enthused about this long-planned double dip. Hoping to win the 5k with as little effort possible and do the 10k as a controlled effort and hope it would be enough to get an age-group prize. As it turns out, I was dusted by a 40+ Brit in the 5k and only two actual runners showed up for the 10k so I was able to coast to third place running 5:50 pace. Too tired and legs too stiff to get any kind of turnover going, mile splits of 5:10, 5:15, and 5:21. The 10k was quite relaxed, and quite enjoyable upon realizing after the mile mark that the last money spot would be mine. First two miles went in 5:45 each, the others all around 5:50. Picked up the effort a bit on the last uphill mile to keep it from being six minutes or slower and it went in the same 5:50 or so as the previous 3. Given how tired I felt the day was a success. Cooldown a 15 minute crawl on the rail trail. Quad soreness manageable during the races themselves but they stiffened up after finishing the 10k and were quite tender by the time I did the cooldown. Cool overcast day with an ill breeze blowing.
