Harvard. Spent the morning staring down the barrel of having to do something of quality in miserable sub-freezing temps. Getting to full procrastination mode when I realized that the track was open for business, and within 15 minutes I was on the road heading into town, impending snowstorm be damned. Mulling over various potential options for the workout, decided on the new standby of km reps (imperial version) alternating with 200s with 200 jog recoveries. Originally going to put this particular session off for a week. Looking to do at least 4 and possibly 5 reps, although it became clear that 4 would be my limit. Splits:
3:27.9 (52.0) 36.7 (52.5)
3:27.4 (50.4) 37.4 (53.6)
3:26.4 (51.9) 37.3 (54.3)
3:28.2 (52.2) 38.0 jog 110 in 32, last 110 19.2
23:17 total
Aiming for something in the 3:30 range for the longer reps, able to hold that line well enough. Surprised that the recovery jogs stayed relatively consistent. On the down side, the faster I tried to go the more the right hamstring was a problem. This made the 220s something of a joke. Fighting a losing battle as the thigh as a whole began to lock up more and more towards the end. Looks to be a holding action at best for now in terms of keeping the leg in a condition where I can race on it. When I did this session last year about this time, it was 5 reps instead of 4, outside. Progressed the 1000s then with relative ease, something that wasn't happening today. Warmup entirely under cover, part of cooldown as well. Bundled up for a quick jog across the river to pick up lunch before heading back home as the flakes began to fly.
