Sun 4/10 - AM 75 minutes incl. 8 mile road race

Ron Hebert race, which unfolded in a completely different fashion than a year ago. Then it was a cakewalk on a delightfully mild morning, this time around I had plenty of company and the weather was chilly with a bitter NW wind blasting away. The wind was at its worst in the first 2.5 miles along route 9, which I spent trying to hide behind the leader. Pace was quite reserved as no one wanted to extend themselves going into the gale. Once we turned a guy who had no business doing so made a move to try and break things up which the rest of us were obligated to respond to. As soon as we started up the second major bit of climbing just past halfway I could feel the screws being turned and contact was lost gradually but inexorably from there. Tried in vain to keep things close on the downhill sixth mile but it wasn't happening and this led to a dejected march to the line the last two miles. Overall the time was 20 seconds or so slower than last year but given the tactics and conditions involved any comparisons are worthless. Splits:

6:04
6:05
5:53
5:46
5:56
5:19
5:49
6:07 - dragged on forever

Cooldown was an out and back jog along the last mile or so of the course, heading in with the CH who also tackled this challenging layout. We both needed a nap afterward.
