6/6/13

Wed 6/5 - PM 65 minutes incl. 1600-1200-800-400-200-100-100

Different type of track workout than what I've become accustomed to, i.e. faster paces and longer recoveries. Like visiting a foreign land after so much threshold work. My lack of familiarity meant that finding the range was pure guesswork. I knew only that I wanted to hit the first lap of the 1600 in around 80 and hopefully progress from there. Instead it went in 78, a bit strained but still somewhat under control. Rest of the splits:

5:10.4 (2:38, 2:32)
4.5R
3:45.7 (77, 74, 74)
3.5R
2:26 (72.9, 73.1)
2.5R
70.3
1R
35.0
100j (37)
16.8
100j (36)
17.0

For the most part quicker than expected. Wearing spikes for everything but the 1600 certainly helped a bit in that respect. Second lap of the 1200 much quicker than expected and had me recalibrating expectations across the board. Less windy than it has been this spring, mild breeze at most on the homestretch. Calf feeling tight and awkward for much of the warmup but things cleared up eventually. Some stiffness in hammie and glute pretty much throughout. Overall a nice fitness check although I couldn't see myself doing this kind of thing too regularly at this point.
